R. D. and Joan Dale Hubbard
R.D.
and Joan Dale Hubbard are Kansas natives who now spend much of their time in
Ruidoso, New Mexico. They are both former teachers, and they embrace an
entrepreneurial approach to philanthropy that reflects their extraordinary
personalities.
After entering the glass business in Wichita, Kansas in 1959, R.D. Hubbard soon
emerged as one of America's most enterprising businessmen. He took two nearly
bankrupt glass companies and soon turned them into a company that became the
second largest glass manufacturer in North America before the company was sold
in 1992.
R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard's primary business interests today are investments in
the horse racing, gaming and real estate industries. Mr. Hubbard is majority
owner and chairman of Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Billy the Kid Casino in
Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico, the quarter horse industry's most prestigious track.
The Hubbard's also have holdings in real estate and golf courses; including the
nationally acclaimed Bighorn Golf Club and residential development in Palm
Desert, California that has hosted the Skins Game, "Battle of BIGHORN" and the
LPGA World Championship. R.D. and Joan Dale own a world renowned stable of
racehorses, as well as a horse-breeding farm in New Mexico. Active for many
years with the Breeders' Cup organization, Mr. Hubbard was elected Vice Chariman
in 2008.
The R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard Foundation is a nonprofit, tax exempt
organization that was founded by R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard in 1986. In 2008,
the Board of Directors gifted a total of $1,758,769 in grants which fall into
